Remembering Porsche 959

Porsche 959
Porsche are often reluctant to call their products as a supercar. Manufacturers from the German state is more comfortable with the term sports car or a sports car.

However, actually 30 years ago Porsche never created a phenomenal car that should go into the corridors of world-class super car, the Porsche 959.

The moment took place in the 1980s, just when some of the Italian manufacturer was enjoying the sweetness of the title as exotic supercar maker. Porsche 959 development projects (or were originally called Gruppe B) began in 1981.

Some senior management of Porsche AG had the idea to create the latest generation of the Porsche 911.

They are aware that they entrust Porsche rear-engined concept sports car, but it must be equipped with wheel drive system all-wheel drive. Event Group B rally considered to be the right choice as a venue for the development and testing of this Porsche 959.

Instead of creating a new engine, Porsche chose to modify the 6-cylinder boxer engine that has been used by 911.

Such modifications include the reduction of production capacity to 2.85 liters, the use of water-cooled cylinder head (yet still air-cooled engine blocks), and the twin-sequential turbocharger system.

Power generated immediately jumped up to 444 hp. Compact sized machines with the power of these monsters of course requires wrapping a solid body frame, but lightweight.

Porsche then designed a composite aluminum body bermaterial and Aramid fiber (a type of Kevlar), combined with Nomex fiber bermaterial floor.

In other words, the Porsche 959 body structure is absolutely no use of iron and steel. 959 aerodynamic aspects are also considered carefully by Porsche, without having to compromise with dynamic physical appearance.

959 For the sake of this, Porsche designed a cutting-edge system, Porsche-Steuer Kupplung, which is becoming wheel drive system the most advanced all-wheel drive at the time.

The system is able to change the distribution of the torque distribution between front and rear wheels adaptively, according to road surface conditions and driver's driving style.

So the Porsche 959 has always had optimum traction at all times. Even magnesium alloy wheels used Porsche 959 was unique, because it comes with built-in features of Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

Frankfurt Motor Show 1985, Porsche introduced the 959 version of the highway, with two variants of trim, the Sport and Komfort.

Although introduced in 1985, but the prospective 959 owners have to be patient until 2 years, since the new Porsche began distributing their order in 1987. Moreover, Porsche AG suffered significant losses of each unit 959 made in the early years of production.

In 1988, Porsche 959 production halt after reaching 292 units. This figure does not include 37 units of 959 versions of the prototype and pre-production. Around 1992 to 1993, there were 8 959 units were made from inventory components and spare parts in the factory Porsche AG. Bringing the total made by the Porsche 959 is 337 units.
Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates are sebagain lucky person becomes the owner of the Porsche 959.

Performance Porsche 959 is said to be marvelous era. The ability to accelerate from 0-100 kph only takes about 3.7 seconds. ven the top speed of this car can reach 314 kph (Komfort version) and 317 kph (Sport version). The figure makes the Porsche 959 is claimed to be the fastest production version of the car at the time.
